Want to score yourself a bargain on gently used baby and kids clothing, toys or goods? Head to My Kids Market which operates three or four times a year at the Newcastle Basketball Stadium. The next market is on Sunday 29 October, 2017.
I love this market as it’s a fantastic place to find preloved goods for boys and girls from birth to 7 years. Yes, Ebay and Gumtree are great for bargains as well but I love being able to check the condition of stuff before I buy it.
Here, you’ll find plenty of stallholders selling their excess baby and kids stuff for a fraction of the retail price. I’ve saved so much money and time by shopping for kids stuff at these markets. I’ve found some fantastic clothes and toys for my little girl over the past couple of years including some clothes which still had the tags on them. Most of the stalls sell baby gear and goods, but you will find some stalls for older children. It just depends on the range that stallholders have.
The market also has a Large Items area located at the back. This is where you will find prams, cots and other oversized items. You just need to choose an item and then go to the table selling it and pay for it and return to the Large Items area with a receipt to pick it up. Some of these items sell fast so if you’re looking for a stroller or a large toy, head here first. I picked up a fantastic Maclaren stroller which was perfect for Grandma’s house.
Get to the market early for the best selection and don’t be intimidated by the lines before the market opens. There’s plenty of bargains for everyone.
Bring loads of cash as there are no ATMs at Newcastle Basketball Stadium. I usually bring a few large bags so I can just chuck things in and carry on shopping.
If you can’t make it at the start of the market, visit later before the market closes at noon. Stallholders will sometimes reduce their prices just to clear things so they don’t have to take anything home.
Conversely, if you’ve got too much baby and kids loot or don’t need it anymore, rent a stall at the market and sell your stuff. Not only are you decluttering (saving your sanity), you’re recycling (saving the earth) and getting some extra money (saving your bank account)!
