Art Cart @ Newcastle Art Gallery

Visit the Newcastle Art Gallery every Saturday and Sunday morning for art and craft activities in the gallery.

Art Cart engages children with the exhibitions on display through discussion and art making. Led by Gallery educators, every weekend Art Cart engages with a different work of art on display, and the event is staged in the Gallery space as close as possible to the original work.

Art Cart grounds the child’s experience of the Gallery with tactile, hands-on experiences. Parents are encouraged to collaborate with their younger children and encourage their older children to extend the art activity with some new element of their own design. Activities can be simplified or made more complex depending on the child. Each activity takes approximately 30 minutes to complete, and we ask that you arrive no later than 12:15pm to ensure there is enough time to complete your masterpiece.

Shortland Family Fun Day @ Tuxford Park

Enjoy a family fun day in Shortland on Sunday August 27 to celebrate the upgrades to Tuxford Park sporting facilities. The event which runs from 10am to 2pm features free kids’ rides, face painting, market stalls, food stalls and local entertainment.

There will also be free netball, cricket and football clinics as well as the Newcastle Knights Junior Rugby League Clinic. Tuxford Park is located at 10 King Street in Shortland.

Kids Session At The Newcastle International Animation Festival @ Tower Cinemas Newcastle

For something a little quirky, take your kids to the Kids Session at the Newcastle International Animation Festival on Sunday 27 August at 10:30am at Tower Cinemas Newcastle.

The world’s best animators have gathered stories from this universe and the next! This year’s 3-day festival will bring you hilarious gags, quiet moments from the everyday, bizarre creatures, acts of human kindness & mind-bending brain food. There’s sessions for adult and a specific one for kids.

The Kids Program features stories from Russia, Japan, France and Germany – just to name a few! There are lots of laughs and plenty of cute moments in this session for people aged 2 and up. You’ll travel to curious worlds with some of the cheekiest characters. Guaranteed giggles for the whole family!

Tickets are $10 per person per session or $25 for a weekend pass and can be purchased through the Newcastle International Animation Festival website.

Free Art Sunday @ MRAG

Every Sunday families are invited to drop into the art gallery for free art activities inspired by the exhibitions on display. Our activities are designed for kids of all ages, and as a family you can all join in and get creative. Each activity takes around half an hour to complete.
Art Sunday is staffed by qualified art teachers. The workshop is designed to encourage parents and children to add to their experience of the gallery by accessing hands-on activities in a family friendly environment.
