Birthday Party Testing! It’s a tough job but someone’s got to do it. We were recently invited to STRIKE at Charlestown Square with 12 of my daughter’s friends to experience a bowling and karaoke party for her 6th birthday. Verdict: Mega Fun!
From a parent’s point of view, a kids party at STRIKE is a dream. There’s no stress and no mess. The staff at STRIKE take care of it all – all I did was bring loot bags to pass out at the end. The meticulous organisation begins when you book your kids party. After booking my party online, I was contacted by Jayden, the National Events Coordinator who confirmed details with me and provided me with an emailed confirmation. He even called a few days before the event to double-check details, confirm numbers and check any dietary requirements.
The attention to detail continued on the day of the party. Before the party started, Romy our party host ran through the run sheet with me explaining the order of activities and detailing when food and birthday cake would be served. She showed me the party room which was decorated with party hats, balloons and streamers. All I had to do was wait for parents to drop their kids off and get the party started.
Once everyone arrived and had swapped their street shoes for bowling shoes, we started the fun with a game of bowling. With 13 kids, we were assigned over three lanes ensuring that there wasn’t a long wait to play.
With different abilities within the group, we had bowling ramps available to those who wish to use it and had bumpers set up for everyone. Romy assisted in helping the girls bowl and explaining the rules.
The girls soon got into the fun of bowling and danced around while waiting for their turn to bowl. As the party host mum, I was offered a glass of wine to enjoy while watching the girls bowl. (Now that’s my idea of a great kids party!)
Following bowling, it was time to eat and we moved to the party room. Soon hot chips, pizza and juice arrived and the girls tucked in to the yummy food. I especially liked the style of individual portions. There were little cartons of chips and small pizzas (cheese or ham and pineapple) provided to each child. I sampled the food and was impressed. No greasy food offerings here! (If you don’t wish for pizza and hot chips for your guests, there’s also sandwiches and fruit platters for a healthier catering option).
Then it was cake time. STRIKE allows you to bring your own cake but I chose to purchase a Peters Fandangles Ice Cream Cake from the venue (saving myself the trouble of transporting a cake). Once again, Romy took care of everything – bringing out the cake, lighting the candles and serving the cake to the girls.
It was then onto the Karaoke room for a singalong. With Romy’s help, the girls picked out their favourites including Katy Perry, One Direction, The Bieb and many, many tracks from Frozen! It was at this point when the party started to get really loud and I wished I had brought earplugs. The noise didn’t seem to faze the little songstresses as they were having a blast playing dressups and belting out tunes at the top of their lungs.
It quieted down somewhat for the final 30 minutes of the party as the kids were provided with tokens to use in the arcade area choosing from driving games, air hockey and the popular ‘Claw’ machine. This calmed them down just in time for pickup by their parents.
Overall, it was a fantastic party and I recommend it for parents who don’t want the stress and mess of organising a party. The wide variety of activities at this 3 hour party was a hit with the kids – they loved the combination of bowling, karaoke and arcade games and had loads of fun and in the end, that’s all that counts!
