Patch and Ruby by Anouska Jones is a heartwarming kids book which explores the concept of loneliness and friendship. Patch is a beautiful pony who has many friends but just doesn’t feel like he fits in. All of the other farmyard animals have their particular personality quirks and as a pony he doesn’t quite share them. However, his loneliness is alleviated when Ruby, another pony comes to stay. Together they learn what friendship is.
This book is ideal to use as a starting point to discuss with kids what friendship means and the different types of friends. It’s a beautifully illustrated book by Gwynneth Jones who brings the characters to life especially the gossiping hens.
